• The episode parodies The Shining including the film’s protagonist, bartender, music, camera angles, and overall tone.
• Trey and Matt mentioned the idea for the “wereprechaun” in the commentary track for Imaginationland.
• Jimmy stuttering “Gangnam Style” is an accurate representation of the song because there is stuttering in the lyrics.
• Kum & Go is a real Midwestern convenience store chain. As the episode aired they tweeted they would be giving a gift card to the first person who sent in a screenshot of their South Park appearance.
• While being “tortured,” Stan says his friends’ names are “Bruce, Tony, and Curt” which refers to the Avenger’s alter egos: Bruce Banner (The Hulk), Tony Stark (Iron Man), and Chris Hemsworth’s character from The Cabin in the Woods, Curt Vaughn, because Thor doesn’t have an alter ego.
• Randy is staring angrily at Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, which is playing on the TV set in the Blockbuster.
• “It’s a graveyard smash,” and “it gets on in a flash,” are references to the song, The Monster Mash.”
• Stan saying “Stay gold” comes from the novel, The Outsiders.

• The costumes: The boys dressed as the core heroes in the film, The Avengers. Jimmy is Psy from Gagnum Style (as is almost everyone else). Mr. Garrison is Ryan Gosling from Drive.
