“How Brandon Hardesty got casted as Cartman”

Branden Hardesty (B-Hard) on the Something Awful forums:
My manager sent me out for this audition. Drove to South Park Studios in Culver City and auditioned, got the call the same day. We shot some of it over a month ago. We all cracked up during the shoot. The scene where Kenny says “Fuck you, Cartman” made me laugh almost every time. It was very hard to keep a straight face.
Matt and Trey are as cool as you think they are and more. They loved filming it and were laughing throughout. When Matt first saw us in our costumes and introduced himself, he said, “This is so ridiculous. This is so fucking stupid. I love it.”
We shot it on Trey’s Dad’s boat. We essentially met the human incarnation of Randy Marsh. Really nice guy.
After a few weeks, we all got calls to do some re-shoots. Because of how last-minute they work, there were some changes to the story. Matt explained to us that they wrote the live-action segment before writing any of the episode.
If anything else can be said, I can tell you that Matt and Trey still genuinely love making this show, and they were both majorly excited about this segment. They wanted it to be a big surprise to their fans, so we, of course, couldn’t Facebook or Tweet about it. At the end of the day, the other actors and I got a picture, in full costume, with Matt and Trey. I’m framing that shit ASAP.
On the live action Mr. Hankey:
It was a fake turd. In the kitchen of the boat, they had bought at least five or six different varieties of fake turds. That’s the one they ended up using. They came prepared!

New South Park FAQs - Top Hat Squirrel, Jewelry Polka, Sean Penn’s Oscar, & More

SouthParkStudios.com answered some new fan-submitted questions. Here are a few that I think are pretty sweet:
QUESTION: Is that a squirrel with a top hat in “Cash 4 Gold”??Is it just me or was there a squrirrel with a top hat in the episode “Cash for Gold” when Stan and his grandfather were talking in a park?
ANSWER: I’m so glad someone caught that! No, it’s definitely not you — there is a happy little squirrel in the background, running around with a top hat. Watch the clip below, and look for him scampering across behind the park bench. One thing’s for sure, that squirrel is clearly nuts.
QUESTION: Is that Matt and Trey singing “The Jewelry Polka”?Hey FAQ guy! I have a question about Cash for Gold, specifically the “jewelry polka.” Is that Matt and Trey singing or someone else? It’s sooooo funky! Thanks!
ANSWER: That was indeed Matt and Trey rocking out on that Jewelry Polka, and I believe it was done ENTIRELY with their vocals. Which marks a pretty awesome milestone: South Park’s first montage to be done totally acappella.
QUESTION: Was that Sean Penn’s Oscar being melted down? Please tell me my eyes didn’t deceive me and that award that gets melted down in “Cash For Gold” said Sean Penn in MILK. It wouldn’t get any better than that for me, epic episodes so far!
ANSWER: Oh yeah, that was Sean Penn’s Oscar for “MILK” alright. Smelted down and dealted with the rest of that crap. Good eye, dude!

MTV released this exclusive clip today in promotion of South Park Season 15 coming out on DVD/Blu-ray. Kind of looks like it could be something out of the full-length documentary about South Park that the director of “6 Days to Air” is working on.

Matt: “Cause Butters has like a little “hey, hey Butters” like a little cute name, but Mantequilla sounds like kind of noble. It sounds like Montezuma or something. Sounds like a big noble guy.”
SouthParkStudios.com also put up a preview of the mini commentary for “1%”:

South Park at Macworld: Art Gallery & Behind the Scenes Panel Info

South Park Studios went on down to Macworld last weekend where they screened the unaired South Park pilot, displayed a South Park art gallery, and held a behind the scenes panel on the animation of the show.
South Park’s official Facebook page has photos of both the art gallery and the animation panel (complete with a box of Cheesy Poofs on the stage).
TUAW has a kick ass photo gallery of “The Art of South Park” exhibit featuring among others: South Park’s Jesus as Jesus, a “realistic” take on ‘Good Times With Weapons’, and a classical piece titled ‘The Birth Of Randy’. They also covered the South Park Studios animation panel, with tidbits like:
They have a team of people working right now on converting episodes to HD from SD. One of the episodes that will likely always live in SD is… “Make Love, Not Warcraft.”
Macworld.com also reported how the panel discussed the technology and the process behind making the show:
Due to the brutal schedule and small staff, it’s not unusual to see the animation staff work from 11 a.m. on Tuesday to 11 a.m. on Wednesday to make that evening’s 10 p.m. air date. Animators will often sleep under their desks in sleeping bags. Stough related an incident five years ago where the staff did a “pajama day” on a brutal Tuesday: “Trey’s pacing about and we’re wearing pajamas…yeah, we stopped doing pajama days after that.”
And finally, I’m sad to report there was no Apple product announcement concerning a part human, part centipede, part Web browser, and part emailing device. The future has not arrived yet.

Screening of unaired South Park Pilot and Behind the Scenes Panel next week at Macworld

Next week’s Macworld 2012 in San Francisco will have a bunch of cool events including three that South Park fans should check out.
There will be a “South Park Art Gallery” that features “a museum of South Park-inspired art work—including work submitted by fans and South Park staff, as well as famous South Park memorabilia, such as the gown Matt Stone wore to the Oscars in 2000 and the original cut-outs and story boards from early seasons of the show”. So magical and fabulous!
On Thursday, January 26th, there is a panel called “The Making of South Park – Inside South Park’s Animation”, which will “provide insight into how the iconic animated series South Park relies on Macs to produce each episode in under a week” and gives “an inside view into the show’s production and technology pipeline that allows the show to turn an idea into a full 22 minutes episode each week.” South Park Studios presenters include Animation Director Eric Stough, Chief Technology Officer David Lenna, and Animation Producer Ryan Quincy.
And on Thursday night there will be an “exclusive screening of the full-length, unaired South Park Pilot episode followed by a mind-blowing, myth-dispelling Q&A with show staff”. They also have a Facebook event for the screening.
The iFan Pass will give you access to all the above South Park events and you get a discount if you purchase online rather than on-site at the expo.
And who knows, maybe Apple will finally reveal the HumancentiPad!
